CBB issues op-ed condemning recent actions to defund the police in New York City and Minneapolis

CBB founder and CEO, Craig W. Floyd, wrote an op-ed condemning recent actions taken by New York City and Minneapolis elected officials to defund the police. New York City Mayor Eric Adams proposed a $132 million police budget cut and a police hiring freeze. The Minneapolis City Council voted to reject a plan agreed to by the mayor and police union that would have provided financial incentives for police recruitment and retention. “Unless we find a way to reverse this police shortage crisis that is spiraling out of control, the public safety concerns of today will pale compared to those of the future,” Floyd wrote.

The Washington Examiner published an op-ed written by CBB Law Enforcement Advisory Council member, David Berez, addressing the mental health crisis facing law enforcement professionals. David, a retired 20-year police veteran, exposes a hidden truth in law enforcement: Many more officers die by suicide than are killed by firearms, traffic-related incidents, or any other cause. He offers a number of healing tips for officers who suffer from 400-600 traumatic events during a typical law enforcement career.

On June 29, CBB announced jointly with Maglite and the Pedestrian Safety Institute that July is National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month. CBB encouraged drivers to obey Move Over laws in all 50 states that require motorists to change lanes and/or slow down when approaching an authorized emergency vehicle stopped alongside the roadway.
